For The Archive

2046

A feast for the eyes, ears, mind, heart, and soul… one of the best films I have ever seen. This film made me want to watch all of Wong Kar Wai’s films. But first I want to watch 2046 about 5 more times.
Enjoy the trailer

The script is also really beautifully written, or rather translated. One of my favorite lines from the movie is ” All memories are traces of tears”…doesn’t that just sound beautiful, a little depressing but beautiful nonetheless. ..anyway, netflix it or rent it or something. It’s so worth it.

Amazing Grace

I watched a really good movie today, “Boomerang” from 1992, starring Eddie Murphy, Robin Givens, and Halle Berry. Also in the film is the iconic Grace Jones playing Strange (pronounced stronjay) Although her role is small it is definitely stand out. I wish I could find a decent clip of her in the film but maybe it is better than I send you off to watch it in its entirety. I hope you would enjoy it as much as I did.

Anyway, here is a video of the fabulous Ms. Jones covering Edith Piaf’s “La Vie en Rose”

Seriously AMAZING!

Graphic Content

I have always been a fan of prints and graphics. As I was browsing through more collections, catching up on spring 2010, these were some of the notable graphics that caught my eye. Go to Style.com to see more where this came from

Basso & Brooke

I loooove watching lightning storms, so naturally I loved this dress. I must say the majority of their collection looked ALOT like Mary Katrantzou’s; not so much in cut but in the type of graphics and colors they chose.

Love, Love, Loved this collection. I look forward to seeing more from this label.

I love this color combination, and I adore those shoes.

I thoroughly enjoyed Jenden’s collection. So good.

Also, I have been pondering the fine line between style and design when it comes to fashion. I feel like alot of these designers lack “design.”  What I mean by that is that the looks are well styled but the individual pieces are lackluster and have little creative design to them. I guess that may be what separates the men from the boys so to speak…anyway, just a thougth.

The above was about as far as I got with London. I missed about 4 days of Fashion Week, and I can’t seem to catch up. Oh well, that is why Style.com keeps really good track of these kinds of things. Ta Ta for now!

Matthew Williamson

CLAP, CLAP, CLAP… all around Thumbs Up for Mr. Williamson. Here go some favorites from his collection. As always go to Style.com to see more.

Indeed, I believe they did save some of the best for last. Also, I am starting to feel like tan is the new grey for me…I can’t stop loving on anything tan/bone/khaki or whatever variant of “light brown” they make…

Jalouse Juin 09

… I realize I am a bit late on this one but this is what happens when you shop the $1 magazine stand. I flipped through this issue of Jalouse about 9 times since I got it. I don’t really understand much, but I loved the editorials. One in particular was of Model Alice Dellal and her boyfriend Ross Tanner

Lovely eh?

Now here is June covergirl and one of my favorite “it” girls, Alexa Chung, being her cute self

I am telling you people! Come next spring at the latest, biker shorts/short leggings or whatever hip new name they decide to call them, will be all the rage. I have seen them in plenty of the spring shows, layered under short-suits or mini dresses. In chiffon, and mesh variations. I want them alllll. Alexa’s got the right idea here.

I blame the sun

…and my mother’s influence. We went on a little shopping spree today. Moms picked up a Louis Vuitton messenger bag and some La Mer. I was doing so good…UNTIL…we walked into Longchamp and I layed eyes on this

longchamp_lm-handbag

It is one of the 60 anniversary bags designed by artist Jean-Luc Moerman to commemorate the brand’s 60th anniversary. This is one of the more “classic” versions from what I have seen but as I was purchasing it as an investment piece, I think it will do me good in the long run. I am often accused of liking alot of color, so this is a good change for me. AND… I got it at 3o% off…AND it was duty free. So in the end it was a splurge but at least I didn’t pay full price or tax. YAY!

Now that I have the bag, all I need is the hair

kate-moss-gaspard-ulliel-for-longchamp-fall-winter-2008-2009-advertising-campaignHA! yeah right…but really, I love Kate Moss’s hair. Always on point.

Oh yeahhh, I went into Zara, and the one here has a kids section! so cute. I almost bought like 5 t-shirts(not from kids section) but I guess I am glad I didn’t cause then I probably would have thought thrice about my bag. I actually don’t have an “it” bag or anything even really super high end like this so I think it was a good start. I’m pretty excited about it haha.

oh yeah, my mom said her addition to her small Louis collection was part of my inheritance, Lol. For the archive forreals.

Guaow guey, esta BRUTAL!

hehe…translation “wow dude, it’s killer/awesome”

Being in Mexico, I have gotten a kick out of hearing the people talk. The slang here is hilarious to me, cause even though I speak spanish, it doesn’t translate. Anyway ^ that statement is what I imagine myself saying if I were a native Mexican (from D.F though. ) when I layed my eyes on this

Tom Binns “Get Real” collection

Laminated cutouts of photos of jewels and other awesome things, like hello kitty and skulls. ughhh if only I had known about this in march when the collection debuted, I could have found one of these babies to call my own. I only recently discovered this while flipping through an old issue of Vogue Australia that I bought from the $1 magazine stand at Traders Village. UGH! I couldn’t even find a photograph of the amazing skulls/hello kitty necklace that stole my heart. Well, at least I can say that Tom Binns has inspired alot of DIY-ers to get creative and make their own rendition of this brilliant idea. I might give it a try considering that I love making collages and cutting stuff out, and this reminds me alot of paper dolls, which were one of my favorite things to play with when I was a kid. Will post if I ever get around to making something. I think a bracelet would be good.

Buenas Noches gente, I have a shopping trip in Cancun tomorrow!

Alas!

Maybe it’s because I have been following fashion week for at least 5 seasons now, maybe I am becoming a snob, maybe not, but whatever the reason, this season has proven to be less than inspiring to me. And to be honest, It’s actually been downright boring at times. I look forward to fashion week, for inspiration, anticipation, and basically to see what’s new. Thus far I feel like I have gotten a lot of regurgitation. Not even Marc Jacobs impressed me. Marc by was a tad bit too “Teen Vouge” and Marc Jacobs was just too “much” if you will. I mean, I am no Anna Wintour, not even really a professional anything, just an observer with an opinion…

…However sometimes amongst the piles of boring, you come across something surprising. Sometimes it’s not really pretty, and you think WTF? but after that initial WTF-ness, you take a second look and ALAS! a spark of something new. and that for me was Rodarte’s Spring 2010 collection. A kind of ugly, raw Joan of Arc meets Xena warrior princess in the fifth element look.
